#1. Bein Yom U’Vein Laila — Between Day and Night By Rabbi Mendy of Tzfat
Thank You, G-d, for the ability to distinguish. May I use this gift to serve You.
Intelligence is a gift, and the ability to distinguish is a talent. When used well, it helps us recognize what G-d has given us and how we can use it in His service.
So recognize this gift in yourself. Say, “Thank You, Hashem.” In your work and in your enjoyment of life, use it to make good decisions.
Let me do this without feeding my ego or placing myself above someone else. Let me not diminish another person’s light. Let me not become stingy or filled with pride because of my intelligence, or feel superior because I can distinguish between things.
To truly distinguish, I must recognize good and evil—and choose good. I must appreciate the value of doing mitzvahs, learning Torah, and praying, rather than making my purpose simply to acquire more and receive for the sake of receiving.
I must find ways to assist others and help make G-d’s world the place He wants it to be, according to the entire Torah and the Ten Commandments.
