CLEARING GUIDED TESHUVAH INFORMATION& DIRECTIONS
- As Hashem is infinite, so, too, are the possibilities of our relationship with Him. The intention of the Clearing is for our most loving, devoted relationship with Hashem on all levels and as a spiritual doorway to life change. The wording is modeled on Rav Yehudah Zev Segal Manchester Rosh Hayeshivaztzl,
- Thanking: Gratitude is of paramount importance; please express yours sincerely & authentically with your feelings, words and Spiritual commitments.
- All steps are done in plural, on behalf of everyone.
- For greater depth, do this Teshuva Process one time for each of the issues on the Issues to Clear sheet. Each times you may add your personal issues and those of people you help. After that, do it for whatever is in your life that you want to transform;look for large patterns and include the specific issues within them. Whatever is in your life that you don’t want to be there is what you came to “fix”, according to the Zohar. This includes even things you witness happening to total strangers, like a traffic accident on the side of the road. It brings the opportunity to address why you witnessed it.
- Read the dedications on behalf of my son Avrohom and the others, as well as making any personal dedications in memory of or for the health or success of anyone you choose.
- Statements should be said 1-3 times, as you feel you need to really connect with what you’re striving to do.
- Do your best to achieve the intentions of each step wholeheartedly (forgiving, accepting, etc.). If you have difficulty forgiving, accepting or loving yourself or anyone else, visualize the person as a young child, which is when what ultimately caused this originated. If resistant, try Reinforcing exercise on last page.
- Italicized words are informational and don’t need to be said.
- You may say, “I choose to…” on any step you aren’t able to do as stated.
- Go as far as is comfortable for you each time. You can divide it as you like.
- Keep track of what you do in any format: date, issue/s and the results. This will encourage and let you see how your issues and life gradually transform.
- Doing a Teshuva or individual steps may be facilitated by any of the following on the Teshuva: “declaring PEACE” with and Forgiving yourself, tracing the fingertips of one hand repeatedly down the top of the middle finger of the other hand, tapping or focusing a red led light where the base of the skull meets the top of the neck in the back. They are also helpful for resistance (see N ).
- “Wholeheartedly” means: unconditionally, fully, joyously, unhesitatingly, totally, etc.
- Resistance or objection is likely opposition to change—usually because of fear. It may be experienced as “not feeling like it”, not trusting or believing it will work, “forgetting” or getting too “busy” to get “around” to it, feeling “bored”, exhausted, overwhelmed, incompetent or that it’s too hard. It may “show up” externally as others discouraging us, “needing” us, even in us or others getting sick or hurt. External resistance or objection is usually a mirror of our internal resistance, whether on the conscious or subconscious level. Traumatized “parts” of us, which have disassociated or “split off” from our conscious self, due to childhood experiences, may “resist” our attempts to change because they experience it as dangerous, or literally reject attempts to treat ourselves in a more loving way, for example. They may even have such a powerfully driven need or desire to prevent change that their ceaseless “broadcast” for help to stop it actually works at the quantum level to attract seemingly unrelated “interference” with our sincere conscious desire. Try as we might, there may be layer upon layer of resistance or objections—even layers of resistance to letting go of resistance. It can exert a powerful enough force to literally control our lives.
- Morphogenic fields: Energetic “patterns” of thought and/or action, which, in effect, “create” their own “reality” of existence. They may originate in one’s family, Family System, nation, gender, etc. Though they can expand and adapt, the longer particular patterns persist, the greater their tendency to resist change. Rupert Sheldrake terms this habitual tendency of nature “morphic resonance,” whereby present forms are shaped through the influence of past forms. Morphic resonance is transmitted by means of “morphogenic fields,” which are analogous to electromagnetic fields in that they transmit energy &information, but differ in that they do so without using energy, and are therefore not diminished by transmission through time or space..
- Forgiveness is on 3 levels, whether you are asking for it or giving it: selicha: forgiving or giving up the right to punish; mechila: erasing and not harboring resentment or ill will and erasing any ramifications; Kapora: removing any effect, as if it was never committed. Midahk’negedmidah—if we do this towards others, Hashem will do it for us. Even when forgiveness is granted, there is a “dust” from it that should be removed. This can be done by acts of chesed (lovingkindness)—especially through feeding others. This is true even when the initiating chet (sin) was “sins of the fathers” that is visited on their children, as it is the child’s responsibility to eliminate the chet.
- ”Mirrors” and “teachers” are people or situations that teach us painful life lessons or that act as a mirror to us of how we treat ourselves or others—usually the things that are considered negative, such as disappointment, embarrassment, loss, etc. They include those who cause this, witness it, or benefit from it directly or indirectly—even if they aren’t the direct “cause”. That also includes our “family system” or the “system” of our primary family. We may be “mirrors” or “teachers” for others, and others serve as our “mirrors” and “teachers”. Focus on your direct and indirect “mirrors” and “teachers” for the issues you are clearing while doing the steps that involve them. Forgiveness releases both us and them. The Teshuva does not condone any wrongdoing; it is to release and transform it in the highest way to allow you to move forward in life to happier possibilities.
- appropriate time perspective (step 17) We may be mentally or emotionally “stuck” in the past or future time perspective inappropriately, which doesn’t allow us to fully function (eg: always stuck looking back at the “good old days”, endlessly dwelling on past hurts, or putting everything off until some future time)
- ⓫Boundaries (step 18) – Healthy physical, emotional, relational and spiritual boundaries are vital to protect us from negative or limiting influences, such as from taking on or taking in unhealthy beliefs or patterns, and to keep our healthy, happy belief systems and patterns intact and functioning for our best interest and for us to thrive and succeed in our religious commitments, health, finances and relationships. Some of the things which can damage the healthy functioning of our boundaries include: experiencing or witnessing others’ trauma, abuse, illness or injury, disasters, pervasive fear, unhealthy beliefs (including those of our Family System, “clan”, society, gender, race, etc.), ancestral trauma, such as being a descendent of survivors of the Holocaust, wars, plagues, famine, natural disasters, etc. These can result in subconscious negativity and many of the above-defined issues or conditions.
- Teshuva b’ahava-The highest form of teshuva: done from love for Hashem
- Teshuva b’simcha – (from the AishKodesh) The point where people are able to talk about their deficits and own them. That’s called teshuva b’simcha: having enough simcha to stop being ashamed of one’s deficits and admit them, but not to the extent that the deficit is considered something to be proud of.Rabbi ZachariaWallersteinA”H says that after we overcome our weaknesses, we should turn them into ways we are able to help others (like becoming an addiction counsellor after overcoming alcohol or, if a person was judgmental, working on overcoming it and creating a home based on acceptance and care, where judgmental talk and actions aren’t in their home—creating a healthy environment in their home.)
- “The teshuva process begins with recognizing one’s strengths and good points so he will have the courage to rectify what needs to be rectified.” (stated by Rabbi YitzchokKirzner, ztl in a shiur)before teshuva (Step 1) It is important to have the balanced perspective of Hashem created me perfectly imperfect so I will grow and improve because I am a worthy person. The word Korban (sacrifice) comes from korev (to bring closer). Admitting we did something wrong is like offering a korban to Hashem to come closer. The bedrock of who we are should be “I am a person of worth that is inherently imbued in me by Hashem”.
WHAT WE SEE, HEAR, EXPERIENCE AND BELIEVE BECOMES WHO WE ARE,
AND WHO WE ARE BECOMES WHAT WE SEE, HEAR, EXPERIENCE AND BELIEVE
